I have twelve week old broad breasted bronze turkeys, and my favorite one- Eli- has one green eye. The other is brown. Has anyone else ever come across this with BBB? I know that other variations have colored eyes but I’ve never heard of a BBB with this trait. I’m assuming there was some cross breeding somewhere along the way- something I can only see as favorable as it relates to the bad breeding of the B.B. Varieties in terms of longevity (they’re pets).

I’ll post photos later.

I've got a BBB x Eastern wild Jake and he's got a blue eye and a black/brown eye.. Nothing wrong with him or anything, I've never seen a turkey with a green eye before? Would love to see pics :pop

I will post some when I get home. It’s not bright green. More of a hazel but most def green. Yours sounds cool. I’d love to see a photo of him too. I was wondering if that lends to the concept that there’s some other variation mixed in him and if that may contribute to possibility a longer life (hoping that the B.B. health problems may be less exaggerated). @TurkeyTimes @casportpony @R2elk I sure hope that’s the case as he is my little darling. And he is so in love with me. He knows he’s my pick of the litter... rrrrr... rafter. :love

If on a tight diet your BBB should do fine, I know a lot of people say that BBs make horrible pets saying they have all these health problems and that they don't live longer than 1/2 years and such, but i've got a 5 year old broad breasted bronze in with all of my other heritage breeds and she does just as fine as everyone else, Perfectly healthy too. The only cons about her is that she's too heavy to roost but besides that she's just like everyone else except way more friendly :)

You have no idea how happy I am to read that. So she sleeps on the floor? And what diet have you kept her on. I’m curious from 12 weeks. That’s what mine are. They’re already 16-21 lbs

It’s kind of hard to get in a photo in full sun but I did the best I could is this hazel-ish color normal on BBBs?

your Jake's eyes look fine to me, I feed my BBB separately and give her about 3 quarts of game bird chow, she free ranges with everyone else on 40+ acres so I try not to feed her that much, I'll try and post a pic of her later when I get home

Can’t wait to see her! Where are you from? Are yours pets too?
