Our first cold just blew in last night -- 11 today with the wind HOWLING. Wind chill was -7 or something ridiculous like that.

Our well froze for the first time last night -- no water when I got up to take a shower! I put a new roof on the pump house this summer when the old one blew apart in a storm I guess it doesn't seal as well as the old one. I felt a little bit bad stealing the red heat lamp from the coop for 45 mins or so to put in the pumphouse to thaw out the pipes. I put it right back when I was done

Put some rubber weatherstripping around the lid to the pumphouse to make it seal better, stapled some insulation to the roof & stuck a 100w bulb in a brooder lamp in there. Hopefully that will make it through tonight!

2" of snow on the ground now and counting. Wind has finally stopped thank goodness.

You could visit here. We're expecting 72 on Thursday.

....we've got 6" on the ground this morning and it's still snowing lightly.

Trying not to smile at your last post Katy but I just got to ask how pretty is it to you now?

It really does stink doesn't it. If it has to be this cold I would rather not have the "pretty stuff" it just make everything more messy. You try not to track it back in the house but when it's 7 inches or more it ends up all over the bottom of your pants, tops of your boots and then it ends up in the house. The girls don't want to come out of the coop the second they see the pretty stuff.

It actually is still pretty to me even tho it makes cattle chores take at least 3 times as long. Had to scoop the feed bunks out this morning plus scoop an area of all my chicken runs so they'd come out to get water....so I've done my fair share of snow removal this morning. My hubby hates it tho and it irritates him to no end that I don't mind it.

It could be a bit warmer tho!!

Right now it's a balmy -6 degrees here, we'll reach a high of 5 degrees today. I won't complain though, yesterday the temp was around -30 with the wind chill.
