Hello,
I have a BBW that I have seen get bred, she has laid 3 soft shells in the past week and a half. My question is can this be corrected or should I cull her? I was hoping to hatch some Auburnx chicks this spring. I let the birds free range all day, they get a high protein layer ration 2x a day and eat oyster shell like it is feed so I don't think it is a lack of calcium.

They always clean it up in the mornings, but in the evening there is normally some left when they go in for the night. The container I use is a 1 gallon waterer jug and I feed 2 of those of ration plus a 1lb coffee can each of cracked corn and scratch grain twice a day. They eat lots of acorns and what ever they can find during the day, crops are always full looking. The oyster shell I have to put out a coffee can a couple of times a week because they eat it like feed. I was wondering if it was maybe because of the breed that she just may not lay viable eggs, hope not she is a sweet girl it will not be easy to cull her and she is doing so good, gets around great, just waddles all over the place.
