BCM color/sexing

Hi all! I’m the proud new owner of 4 chicks. 3 of them hatched on the 4th (different breeds), but my Black Copper Maran hatched on 8/21, so she’s a bit older. I wondered if anyone can shed light on coloring differences between pullets and roos? I found a thread discussing light versus dark foot feather coloring... can anyone help? She is so far the most active of the bunch, but could just be because she is the oldest. Her assertive personality has me nervous that she could be a he, but I know it’s probably way too early to tell.

I've not heard of sexing by foot feather color. Maybe ask in the genetics forum or the breed forum under the Marans thread.

I will say that personality at a young age does not determine sex. Many of the pullets at that age are more aggressive and active than the cockerels.

I've not heard that either. I doubt it works.
Wait until they're fully feathered at least.

Typically with Marans you can start telling sexy by comb size at four weeks- you're just a little bit shy of that. My guess (and hope) is that you have a little pullet!
