Hi!! I am new to BYC. We are looking to purchase a new home in Beachwood NJ and owning chickens for pets and eggs has been something I have been wanting to do for a long time now. I have searched and searched to find out about the laws or any ordinances about keeping backyard chickens and have found no info. Can anyone help me out who lives in Beachwood NJ? Or maybe a place I can search on the internet to find more info? TIA

I can’t keep chickens in my town, so I keep quail. In nj, and many other places, coturnix quail are an exempt species, and the nj dept of fish and wildlife does not require a permit. Most towns have no laws for keeping game birds.

Thank you for that info. I will have to do some more research on keeping quail and the basics!
