Hello all,
I’ve received today my first pair of chakurs, a little bit raggedy but I believe due to being in a much smaller space as indicated by the breeder who is over stocked, so very confident in their new environment will soon be tip top.
I have noticed the males beak seems a touch over grown, I don’t feel long enough to require my veterinarian to be called out but I wondered whether a poultry mineral block will work in trimming back sufficiently enough , and what others use to prevent this occurring. To my understand they’ve come off a cramped wire base coop, I know this is hugely popular for game, however it’s not my prefer method , I have mine on slid out trays. Covered in animal grade dessert sand, oyster shell poultry grit mixed in, with dried will twigs and cuttle fish chunks broken up and scattered.. they also have a hide with a bird sand paper top and hemp Mat covered sides , which I made in preparation for claw concerns. I also meticulous weaved willow into there back wall in hopes they would peak away at it.
The breeder suggested I add an old red brick but I’m not sure that is appropriate as I don’t know what it’s made of ?
Other then stated, they are calm and seem to be settling in well pecking, scratching and exploring
I have named them Chaka and khan ( I name all my breeding stock)
I will add some pictures
