I have 35 coturnix, and just today I found three adults with beak deformities. These quail are around 5 weeks old and were not born with crooked beaks! This must have happened just within the last few days because I really do keep a close eye on them, every few days I really buckle down and watch my group, looking for any signs of pecking.

All of the sudden I have 3 quail with crooked beaks. They don't line up correctly like a pair of scissors like they should.

Please, if anyone can tell me how this happened it would be great. Can quail fighting amongst themselves actually have the power to shift a lower beak? Maybe they are catching on something? Any tips on catching the perp?

My digital camera is old news so all my close-up pictures turn up toof uzzy to see the detail, so I drew a picture.
This is what all 3 of my quail pretty much look like in varying degrees, one was still fresh and bleeding.

I'm not sure how to post a picture on here so this link will bring you to a doodle of it

I suspect some fighting was going on. Can you tell if these were males???

I would try isolating them if you have smaller pens into 3 pens and let them recuperate and heal up...You should also see if they are able to eat.

I've only had one set of quail, so I'm not much of an expert. Try posting this under emergencies for better response.

Be blessed and be a blessing...

There is one unknown, one male, and one female injured so far, and they've been isolated into a luxurious indoor birdcage

But do you think they're doing this to eachother??

If They Were All Roos I'd Say Yes They Are Doing It To Each Other, But With Mixed Sexes I'd Say Its An Environmental Injury--- Some How They Are Hurting Themselves In Their Pen. Do They Dash Around Violently? Perhaps These Are Crash Injuries --- From Flushing And Crashing Head First Into The Sides Or Top Of Their Pen.... This Seems Most Likely Given The Info We Have Here.----

Neighbor's Cat Sees Tasty Lil Birds In A Pen--- "hey Lets Watch These, Arent They Mezmerizing???"--- In The Mean While The "tasty Lil Birds"are Dashing Around Like Mad In A Panic That The Cats "gonna Eat Me!!!!" --- Slam!

STILL COULD HAVE FLUSHED IN THERE AND WENT HEAD FIRST INTO A WOODEN WALL..... OR IT COULD CERTAINLY BE THE CAGEMATES, WE ARE AFTERALL TALKING ABOUT QUAIL!

Wow! can't believe these birds have enough power to do this to eachother! They bite me all the time (especially when I have the food bowl) and I can hardly feel it at all, and I'm surprised they can manage to break eachother's beaks o0
