For people, beans and corn together equals protein. Does this apply to chickens?

Of course I mean cooked beans, and it can be either field corn cracked, or sweet corn. Give me your opinions.

Just wondering, because I grow both kinds of corn. Just trying to get protein on my own without buying feed. I want to keep it self sufficient, and even wonder about the elders who raised chickens without the feed store available.

you need it to equal complete lineup of amino acids.

Soy and corn = complete amino acids. I don't know about "beans"

Beans can mean so many things too.

Our ancestors didn't have to feed, all chickens ranged, but they also didn't expect such growth and as many eggs from a single hen either.

Good luck, wish I had the space to grow it all myself!

i think they do, but it makes 11% crude protein at best. and you would still need another scource,
I am in the process of switchin to our own formula, and getting away from commercial feeds, what are you feeding layers , or broilers,? what kind of beans? and have you considered whole grains?

I was thinking that someone out there probably had some ideas, and i remember a thread or two on the subject.

I would love to see your ideas, cw. I have wheat berries and whole oats as well, flax seed, and whatever you can help with is great.
