Dear Southern California BYC Members:

I'm screening for a new loving home for my gorgeous bearded partridge silkie roo, almost 6 months old, an adorable, friendly fluff-ball.

I don’t just want to find him a HOME…I want to find him the PERFECT HOME! A place where he can safely free-range during the day, protected from predators, and sleep in a sheltered coop at night. I want him to live a great, long life. Ideally someplace with lots of girlfriends for him, and no other roosters.

No cages, and no small kids. For local pick-up only - No shipping! I am asking any potential adoptees to submit photos of your yard and coop, and also describe the living conditions that would be provided. (More information included below the following photos....I took the photos this morning, and he’s having a “bad hair day” after dipping his head in his food…He usually has more of a fluffy “afro”!)

He’s absolutely gorgeous with some of the most vivid coloring I’ve ever seen on a partridge silkie. He’s breeding quality, from the most famous champion lines. He is almost 6 months old, super healthy, really big and so sweet and tame...ABSOLUTELY NO pecking or aggression toward the other silkies or even toward my small 3 month-old Araucanas...He's a perfect pet!!

I had suspected that he was a boy due to his outgoing personality, which was confirmed today...He just crowed this morning. Not a very loud crow, but one that would definitely not be acceptable at 4:00 am in my urban area.

Ironically, I just sent all four of my silkies’ feather samples out for DNA testing last week and haven’t received the results yet! I hope that he is the only boy!

Please e-mail me personally if you may be interested or if you would like more information or photos.

THANK YOU!

GREAT NEWS ABOUT MY ROO! I found him a great home in Hesperia. An acre of land with a small farm and huge enclosed area for the chickens! A really wonderful lady and her kids who are involved in 4H club. She has 20 leghorn pullets and he’ll be the only rooster. The only caveat: The pullets are babies, so he wouldn’t have any chick-companionship until they get a bit older…So, this morning I made the tough decision to adopt him out as a pair with his sister. My selfish desire to keep all of my pullets was overridden by my guilt last night, when I put him in the house alone to keep him from crowing. It broke my heart because he was so lost and confused without his litter-mates. I had put an old piece of rabbit fur in the box with him, and he buried his head in it but still wouldn’t lay down and go to sleep. He just stood there for a couple of hours with his head buried in the fur! Finally, I broke down and brought in the sister that he is inseparable with. They curled up and went to sleep right away! Of course, I do really hate to give her up…But when I saw him burying his sad little face in the ratty piece of fur, and imagined him being in an unfamiliar place without any chicken-friends, I really had no other choice!
