We have a 17 week old buff roo that needs a new home. He is absolutely gorgeous and very protective of his girls. We are only raising laying hens and can't keep him. He is still on medicated feed and has been well cared for. He loves to eat scratch right from our hands. :). Pics below. . Located in Etowah County, Alabama. No shipping

medicated feed is awful for chickens

i only use if if i have chicks shipped in that arrive 1/2 dead & very stressed

i get them off of it as soon as i can

17 weeks of medicated feed is not so good

sorry to be blunt

i know most people at the feed store that sell medicated feed

don't ave any real idea what it does to poultry

they should have informed you

Medicated feed is NOT awful for chickens. It certainly is not necessary. It's sole purpose is to prevent losses to coccidiosis, and towards that purpose it is very useful.

Medicated feed contains
amprolium
, which protects chicks from the progression of
coccidiosis
, a common and deadly intestinal disease that is spread in fecal matter. Chicks that have received the coccidiosis vaccine should
not
be fed
medicated
starter, as the amprolium will render the vaccine useless and the chicks vulnerable to the disease. Medicated feed does not prevent any other common poultry illness such as Marek's.
