Bedding / flooring

Newbie here too, 'following'

We have a native se colorado soil ground, the usual weeds, grass, brown rich soil and I'm catching rain off pens and roofs) so its not muddy unless I water the run down..and my husband has us using straw like how he raised chickens. But I just started wondering what's popular and never realized there was a ground method of bedding and such LOL...thats a newbie

Different situations call for different applications.  What kind of floor do you have?  Are you going for a deep litter method?   With some more info maybe some could help you out.

Wish ya the best.

Im putting it on dirt but the first inch of ground is pine needles. Whats deep litter. Sorry im realy new to this

I like pine shavings/chips. They absorb any moisture, dry out poop very quickly, break down in my compost pile quickly, offer a soft "landing pad" when chickens jump off the roost, and my girls seem to love them.

I dont think i want to use the deep litter method so what other bedding could i use?

Just scroll up this page to the Search Bar and put in "coop bedding" or "bedding methods" or something similar (without the quotation marks) and you will find many threads on the subject.
