Bedding question

I bought a bale of shavings and they told me that they are pine shavings. Do the pine shavings in the bale look and smell different than the ones that you buy in the smaller packages? I don't want to put this in with my chicks if it's cedar and the bag just says wood shavings - Help

What color are the shavings and can you take a picture of the bale..Most pine bedding has different shavings in them. Mine have always been a dull yellow it is really hard to describe. almost a straw color.

this has reddish colored pieces in it and smells strong. It''s dark right now so I can't take a picture

I'll bet what they sold you is a generic pet bedding. It's a mixture of pine/cedar shavings. Some pieces will be yellow, others reddish brown. It will have a strong smell, from the cedar.

ah, it says on that site that it's a blend of FIR and pine. I know everyone here says pine is fine. So I guess the reddish pieces would be fir.

So I wonder if fir is ok for them?
