It's been about a full year (give or take a few days) since I brought home my first chickens Kernal and Sandy. Later on the last day of the Fair I adopted another pullet which I named Krispy I never knew owning chickens could be so fun and so heartbreaking at the same time. I found that out when I lost my first chook a pullet named Sandy on 12/07/2008. Even though I lost her I put 7 of her eggs from the fridge into an incubator. 3 of them hatched and I had prayed that one would be a lil pullet. Sandy blessed me with 2 little boys and a girl which I named Iona (means white dove). Later in Feb. I put my first batch if banty eggs in the bator. I hatched out 4 OEGBs and 2 wyandottes. We lost one of the wyandottes because the lamp fell on the guy one night. So I was left with Buck, Spanky, Spunky, Runt and BB. Soon I brought home my first little crossed-break (Newbie) from school. She was the only one to survive out of that hatch and my first chicken I have ever gave CPR to. Later when April came I bought 2 D'uccle and 2 Golden Sebrights from TSC. Kept only the D'uccles so far. I hatched out 3 more wyandotte chicks kept 2 of them (Newbie Jr. and Diamond for now). Towards the end of the school year I adopted 2 more wyandotte girls and a boy(Pepper, Coco, and Twister) and brought them home. 3 days before school ended I brought home 3 more little chicks. I hatched out one single chick for my friend but so far she/he is still living here. They are a showgirl, bantam leghorn(I think), a brown one no clue on what he/she is and a little silkie/cornish mix.
So thats where I am right now on chickens. It's been so fun hatching and watching them grow up. I never thought chickens would be so fun. So many helpfull and nice people here on BYC. Thank you all I couldn't have done it by myself
