My wife and I are planning to start a backyard flock of chicks this spring. The coop is built and almost complete. We have the beginnings of a brooder setup in the basement for now. This will be our first time raising chickens. We plan to start with 6 chicks. We live on the front range of Colorado where our winters are pretty mild and summers are pretty warm. Usually, we get lots of sunshine all year and not much humidity or precipitation. I'm not sure what breed(s) we'll wind up getting just yet, but we're researching that now. I know they'll need to get used to both grand children and dogs, which we plan to start introducing to each other shortly after we get them. I've browsed some of the articles and forums here already and have enjoyed what I've seen so far.
