Is it normal (as normal as can be with chickens I suppose) for them to be more challenging toward one another as it gets closer to dusk? I am assuming it it establishing "pecking order" for roosting spots?

Sounds plausible to me! I've seen posts from people about how their hens "argue" while jockeying for spots. I can hear mine have a minor tussle now and again when I close them in their coop.

Oh, there just trying to outdo one another with the gossip of the day.

Oh yes, I can hear it from the house. They all seem to want the spot that someone else has. Then one gets dumped off the perch..........

Ok so I am not crazy (HA!) They are really good all day get along then in the evening total chick argument central lol
If they have gossip I want to know it!
