One of my roosters has sustained an injury on his toe. It was cut open and his foot is swollen with what looks to be an infection. We have been treating with daily epsome salt baths and antibiotic ointment which has seemed to help but I think an oral antibiotic would benefit him at this point. Any advice on which antibiotic might be most beifical for him would be great. Thanks in advance!

This is the type of infection that would respond beautifully to the homeopathic remedy HEPAR SULPHURIS CALCAREUM. Everyone knows why we should try our best to avoid using antibiotics - they mess up the gut flora and invite fungal infections and there's also the problem of creating antibiotic resistance. I'll let Joette Calabrese (world renowned as I'm finding out)) do the talking.

Only wanted to add that Hepar sulph. is very interesting because at the beginning of an infection, it will prevent pus from forming and will heal, but once pus has started to form, it will hasten the pointing of an abscess and the evacuation of the infection.
You should also know that there was a case not too long ago https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/broken-toe-bumblefoot-got-infection.1308876/. Unfortunately, after oral antibiotics as prescribed by a vet, the infection didn't go away and the toe had to be amputated.

If you decide to get Hepar Sulph. please post and I'll be back with how to store, handle, administer and - very important- the dosage.

Welcome To BYC!
Unfortunately the poster you are quoting has not been active in well over a year so likely they will not respond to your question.

If you would like to give more information about the problem you have, we may be able to give you some suggestions.
I am not familiar with homeopathic applications, so will not be able to help you with that.

Tell us more about what the trouble is. Photos are most helpful, so please post some.
Your location is also important - you don't have to be really specific, but state or country is nice to know - we have folks from all over the world and products/availability vary greatly.

Thanks!
