We are working on a coop that someone gave us for our new little chickies. We would like to have an automatic door, however, the way that the coop is designed, I think we need a door that will open sideways.

I see that the Omlet door does, however, they are backordered 5-6 weeks (and are dang expensive).

Does anyone know of another cost-effective automatic door that opens sideways? I am so leary of buying one on Amazon...

I have scoured and searched the message board and can't find many. Thank you!!

Don’t think I can do this for a lesser price if I have to buy all I need. And no way if you count my hours too.
It will cost you around $75 for the electrics and 20 for the actual door. All depends on what you want to make it out of. A small walwart power supply will be needed $5 if you have mains/house power or an 8 amp/hr battery will last at least 6 months on a single charge. Putting it all together should take no more than an hour.

If you have a good wifi signal to the coop you can even make it a smart door just by using aa MHCOZY 4CH Smart Switch, instead of the timers...

BTW asking how to do it is a much better way of finding out if you can actually get it done than automatically assuming that you can't.

Ok so I had not planned on making a door or anything about a door today. LOL. So keep that in mind when watching the video. With just a tiny bit more planning, a much better looking door can be made. However the electronics can be put together in home at your leisure.

This actuator was $30 on ebay. The timers where $5 each from aliexpress and free shipping. Using a smart switch instead of timers will be $20 to $30.

So $60 for the electronics plus whatever you need to power it.

Oh and I recommend using a large dollar store cutting board for the door. A thick one. Cheap and it glides better than plywood. Just don't let direct sunlight hit it. A small awning is easy to make.

What did you end doing?

Topic starter hasn’t been around for a long time, after popping the question.
Yeah look at their activity and haven't been on. Was hoping that a direct message would get a response.

Also that's something that bugs me. BYC always pushes these out of date threads in my emails and current feed. Me thinking that it is a current post always forgets to check the dates.

If you go to your account (avatar photo) / preferences you can choose to get no emails.
I only selected the first email option and do get the newsletter by email. Not updates of threads.
