Hi.

I'm ordering chicks in the spring, I want layers mostly... But I'd also like some bantams, for my Silkie flock. There are currently only two in that flock, a Silkie mix roo, and a Silkie hen. The Silkie hen is the mother of the said roo, and 2 other roos. One of the roos has moved to my other larger flock, and the other is away battling with merecks disease. Anyhow I'd really love to add more members to the Silkie flock, but I would like to maybe have some variety. Maybe call it the bantam flock instead. So, what are the best bantam breeds? The friendliest, or the hardiest ones. I'd also like to get some opinions on these breeds...
Ameruacana
Polish
Frizzle
Sebright
Bantam Brahma
Wyandotte (ik they arent really bantams)
Pekin

Thanks for reading!

Having Sebrights myself, they are very beautiful and sharp looking, but they are not very cuddly or overtly friendly if that’s what you are looking for. Even at 5 months old and being handled from day one, they do not enjoy being touched but will tolerate a close proximity to me. They tend to be very active and wary birds, always on alert, and something just a touch wild savvy is about their nature.

I have a six month old Cochin who has been laying every other day and is the only layer in my young flock currently. She’s very talkative and friendly, plus those cute feathered feet are irresistible.

As for breeds I really enjoy, my Japanese have been just fabulous, easy to handle, stunning and great with all my other breeds. I couldn’t recommend them more for a fun bird that loves to sit in your lap, or the palm of your hand and beg for treats.

My Sumatra Bantam pullet is also a wet blanket, and is one of my favorite girls for her calm, quiet demeanor. My old English game bantams are also a real treat, though they’ve taken longer than the rest to earn their trust.
