Hello!
I'm really interested in upgrading to a better camera than the one I have now, and want all of your recommendations on which one you think is best. I would also like to see some sample photos that the recommended camera has taken. I can probably spend up to $600. I look forward to everyones replies!

A DSLR - even an entry level one or ideally used "prosumer" model will open your world up.

My favorite DLSR is my Nikon D700. You can probably pick up the body pretty cheap by now. The lenses are what you need to invest in.

Here are some I've taken with various pro-sumer and professional bodies, same lenses though.

Those are really nice pictures. So I would have to buy the lenses seperate?

Thanks. Yes, you do have to buy the lenses separately. Usually you can buy a "kit" which includes a basic camera body, a basic lens (that's terrible), battery, charger, etc. I wouldn't suggest it if you really want to get into photography or shoot anything that moves fast. Like animals (or motorcycles!)

What do you mostly want to take pictures of? I can suggest some lenses. My mentor had me get a cheap fixed (prime) lens of 50mm. I learned SO MUCH on that lens about composition, depth of field, and lighting. You couldn't be lazy with it! You had to "zoom with your feet" but since it was a 1.8 aperture, you could nearly shoot in the dark and get an amazing bokeh (the blurred background behind your subject) with it. And it was $80!

oh and while Canon changed their lens mount on their DSLRs you can't use vintage lenses. Nikon didn't and you can use much older but amazing quality lenses for a lot less money. You do have to use manual focus or set your aperture accordingly.
