Best Cheap/DIY Brooder House

With 6 poults, how big do I need and what kind of ideas do you have for a cheaper brooder box? Would a kiddie pool work? Or is plastic a bad idea with the heat lamp?

Hey there! Ive never had turkeys but iam looking into it, i imagine they grow way faster than chicks or ducklings but a kiddie pool has worked for me many times.

They are cheap and leak proof, i like to wrap hardware cloth around it so they cant jump out

Just make sure the heatlamp is secure, it can so easily start fires and if a baby touches it for second its getting badly burned

I start mine in a shallow water trough raised off the ground to reduce drafts, covered with screens, and lined with paper towels (which I will layer over numerous times as they mess them). After a couple weeks they move to a larger enclosure about the size of a refrigerator laid down with fine shavings. When they out grow that, they move into a 12x12 horse stall with netting above until they are about 9 weeks (possibly earlier if weather is warm) and released to the coop after that.
