My first thought was "how can i ever take care of chickens?". In the back of my head i heard just do it. Best decision ever. Got 2 Easter Egger chicks back in Dec 25. Yes they are poo machines but so much fun. Since i got them i have built a fully enclosed 30'x15' aviary with a large tree for shade and the leaves for treats. The whole environment is 100% self sustainable. With my garden on one side all i have to do is push the crops through the fencing. They haven't really touched the bag feed too much since. With a fully modified hutch i had built for my quails a couple years ago they had an area to frolic but way better now. They are so much happier. They come when i whistle, jump in the truck along with my pittbull and ride on her back into the tack & feed. They are so lovable & sweet. I'm going to try natural hatching as one is a hen & one a roo.

Interesting setup! Though I'd recommend getting another hen, as two chickens can be a little lonely. If one is in fact a cockerel, then a trio tends to work better than a duo for multiple reasons
Are you sure you have a pullet and a cockerel? Both look to be pullets to me (although better pictures would be good just to be sure).

In any case, easter eggers are indeed the best! :D
I paid more for the hen than the roo. I got them from a farm here in Queen Creek Az. Who sex them in front of me but what do i know... these are my first chicks.

You've got 2 pullets. Nothing on either bird says they're a cockerel and the one on the left in fact has a female specific color pattern, the one on the right is red but her coloration is very even (males are more splotchy in their coloration) and most notably neither have the pointy hackle and saddle feathers that cockerels usually have at this age, both of them have rounded feathers. Not to mention they both have very small and pale combs. No, pea combs don't get very big even in cockerels but they would still be bigger than what either bird has right now and while a red comb wouldn't be unexpected in a pullet of this age, a cockerel would likely have a very red comb and probably would have had one for several weeks now

Neither looks close to point of lay IMO, but you almost certainly have 2 pullets. If you want a cockerel, my suggestion is to wait until next year and then get 4 more pullet chicks along with a cockerel chick. That way you will have enough females where he's less likely to over breed them, and your current girls will teach him manners. Cockerels who grow up with older birds to keep them in line usually grow up to be better behaved
