I'm suspecting that the hay I pulled from the coop to put in the new silkie chicks brooder could have had mites. Not sure...
All I do know is that they seem to be doing a lot of scratching. I'm not talking about preening here. I'm talking about scratch the side of their heads off. I'm not seeing anything with the flashlight and close scrutiny. Silkies have black skin, so maybe I'm missing something. Are mites going to be visible to the naked eye and what color should they be. I'm not seeing anything.
Anyway, I'm going to change the hay to something I know is clean and dust their little butts. What is the best? I've got DE. I've used that on the biguns and it seemed to have good results. I'm scared to use seven dust on chicks...
