So my little broody bantam finally broke on her own and now it seems she's gone straight into a molt. The poor girl is blowing feathers everywhere.
The flock currently is on an 18% protein layer pellet. For the past week I've been offering Manna's Gamebird/Showbird 24% protein crumbles moistened in a separate feeder that the bantams frequent more than the rest of the flock. For the past couple of days I've noticed her chowing down on it. No doubt she's making up for having eaten less while being broody and I'm glad she's choosing the higher protein food. I also have Big Ol' Bird organic poultry supplement that I started adding to their water today. I'm offering more BOSS and mealworms in with their scratch in the morning, but no more than a handful or two daily. Is there something better I could be doing to help her through the molt quickly?
