Best Fenced Run Flooring?

We are in the final stages of finishing our coop. The hen house is raised 3' above the floor and the whole coop is covered (including the run). I was going to put wood mulch on the floor of the run but now am wondering if that is the best option? I was planning on shoveling it all into the compost pile whenever it needed to be cleaned out. Would sand be a better idea (and forgo the compost additions)? Opinions please!

we put sand in ours and so far I think it's working out great. Just a couple minutes at the end of the day to freshen it up with a rake and kitty litter scoop. I'm not sure what I'll do with my outdoor chicken yard, once they clear the vegetation... maybe sand too.
