I think 1 and 2 are cockerels and the rest are pullets, but I want to be sure they are 5 weeks old and number 2 crowed yesterday.

5 both parents are different types of marans, hatched from the darkest speckled egg I've ever seen

Any help would be appreciated.

1. Possible pullet
2. Possible cockerel
3. Possible pullet
4. Possible pullet
5. Cockerel for sure
6. Possible pullet

I can’t say for sure because 5 weeks is really early to tell gender. Most are done at around 8 weeks. However Marans tend to show gender early, so I’d say 5 is definitely a cockerel.

Also, are you sure #2 was crowing? It is incredibly early for a cockerel to be crowing. It could just be other sounds that their making.

It was the only bird in the coop and my wife saw him do it and I heard it it was definitely a crow but a squeaky one at that.

5 weeks is much too early to make an accurate guess, but I think that #5 is by far the most masculine-looking of the bunch.

I guess it could be a crow. But I wouldn’t say that it’s a for sure sign it’s a boy.

My friend has a little hen who crows, cutest little thing.

I’d wait and post new pictures once they’re 8-10 weeks old.

Number 1 is bigger than all the rest and is an EE mix and has brown coming in between its wings and on the leading edge
