I’m thinking of getting 2 chickens. I don’t know which housing is best? I have seen coops attached to an enclosed run, or some people say to fence an area off and just put a coop in there and let them run around....which is best?

Some background: I live in the country right beside a field, in a row of houses. So I have neighbours to think about and also worried about attracting rats, or foxes from the field.

What’s best?

Welcome to BYC.
These Omlet coops are expensive but are VERY EASY to clean and maintain. I have the MK 2 Cube on wheels with a 3 meter run.
The Go Up would be nice (with wheel) for 2 birds. You can move the coop every day or so on new grass.
Another option would be to build a small Chicken Tractor. There are lots of helpful post on this site about Chicken tractors.

For two or three I'd get a chain link dog pen, ideally with some kind of roof, and a dog house.

Welcome to BYC!

Go bigger than you think you need for a coop....and a good sized run.

Where in this world are you located?
Climate is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, then it's always there!

Thanks for replies. Never seen the Omlet coops before! Will definitely have a look into them. Although I live in Ireland, I’m sure there are similar ones :)

Location updated!
