Best Lighting For Scared Of Dark Chicks: Nightlight Recommendations

I would be willing to bet, they're not afraid of the dark per se, but rather the sudden dark. If you really want to alleviate that reaction you could invest in a ramping timer. These things are used for aquariums mostly, but it's the same idea, it mimics the natural light cycle.

This is just the first one I ran across, I'm sure there are probably cheaper alternatives although like anything else you get what you pay for.

It wasn't as much "scared" of the dark as it was they waited to long to move up to the roost and couldn't see to get up there.
Like little kids, they were up and down all night if i left the light on so it was on for just a little after dark for a few nights and then i took it out. They never had issues after that. The light i use for getting to the nestbox is so dim its not a "light" but a glow less than moon light. its only used late Nov.-Feb.
