Best none dripping water feeder please

Mine is currently hanging in the coop and driving me crazy cause the bedding keeps getting wet.

I dont keep water in the coop because theyre closed up in there for bed. Right now I'm just using a large dog bowl in the run and it works well for us. If you want water in the coop maybe look into a nipple feeder? They might be less leaky but I haven't used one so don't know for sure

I'm really happy with horizontal poultry nipples. I bought an 8 qt stainless steel stock pot, drilled hole for 3 nipples and caulked them in with Eco-bond. I haven't seen any issues with dripping. I have one of these setups inside the coop and in the run.

This is way easy:

One horizontal nipple per 6-8 birds
One 5 gallon bucket (free from deli dept at grocery store)
Drill 3/8" holes for the nipples, clean the hole of plastic shreds then screw in nipples and hand tighten until snug (no teflon tape nor caulk needed, they will self-seal)

The horizontal nipples, like the vertical nipples, don't drip, when properly installed. The vertical ones are much more finicky to install so they don't drip (you need teflon tape and/or aquarium silicone sealant). Both styles will dribble some, while they are being used by a chicken, but the horizontal ones dribble much much less than the the vertical ones. In summer I don't notice the difference, but during winter, because the vertical ones dribble so bad, they created a huge ice chunk under the waterer. A very small ice chunk is created by the horizontal ones by comparison.

Horizontal nipples are the way to go, IMO, especially if you live someplace where it freezes regularly in winter.

This is the winter setup, with a stock tank deicer to keep the water thawed, horizontal nipples don't freeze like the vertical ones will.


Chickens peck at the spring-loaded metal trigger and slurp up the bit of water that gets release into the shallow cup/divot. Buy them on ebay or amazon. About $2/ea, plus a few dollars for shipping.
