Age: Cockerel is 9 months, hen is 2 years.

Breed: Penedesenca

Variety: Black

Names: Cockerel "#10", hen, "#26"

Penedesencas and Empordanesas are the only breeds with a white earlobe that lay a brown egg and it is a very dark reddish maroon egg, also the only breeds with carnation combs.
Extremely rare breeds from the Penedes and Emporda regions of Catalonia, Spain.
Black Penedesenca are famous in Spain for the flavor of the meat. They have their own festival called the Fair of the Rooster the weekend before Christmas where people go to pick out their Christmas dinner (on the hoof, so to speak). The roosters are $50 and they process them for you.
Excellent foragers but very respectful of fences. I can keep a flock of roosters inside a 2 ft. fence.
