I have a small scale rabbitry and have kept rabbits for several years. I’ve always kept my rabbits in stalls/pens in small colonies. I’ve always preferred this style, personally.
Right now, my small barn is becoming quite full and i need to maximize space until I can get my addition done. The best way to free up valuable floor space would be to put my rabbits in hutches on the walls.
I am not totallyopposed to hutches; I Am opposed to tiny hutches with no stimulation or entertainment for my rabbits or all wire floor . They currently have ramps, hideouts and ample space
To move and socialize in their stalls. If I can replicate something similar in a hutch , I will be comfortable making the change.
I am wondering if everyone can show me their rabbit hutch ideas with lots of space and entertainment for their herds. I’d love all ideas and pictures people could send my way. Thanks!!!!

I'm sorry I have no experience with what you're looking to do. However, I just wanted to tell you I think it's awesome you're concerned about the welfare of your rabbits. I see buns in tiny cages or hutches and it makes me cringe.

I use wire cages, with a floor matts. 30x30 cages hung from the ceiling, and/or bolted to the walls of my rabbit barn. Although I don't on my farm, it wouldn't be difficult to open up multiple cages for rabbits. Kits are weaned and put 4-5 to a cage until they reach 5 pounds for processing. Fur rabbits get their own cage. Multiple pine cones and wood blocks (fruit tree trimmings, untreated pine cut offs, etc) are added to each cage. One adult rabbit can chew a pine cone to a nub in a day. The Kits it usually takes a day or 2. Hay is added 2x a day at a minimum. Upside down nest boxes are often added to mix things up a bit (and removed when they start to chew on them too bad).

I have an automatic watering system installed that I use in the spring-mid fall months. During the summer, I add 4-5 pound blocks of ice to the cage for the rabbits to utilize. its funny to watch them hop on top and slide off.

I’m new to this so please take it with a grain of salt. I use wire cages with cardboard mats that they can dig or chew, and they each get turned out by hand into small tractors every (non stormy) day (I don’t have room for full sized tractors). They also get sticks, garden scraps, and lots of browse that my kids and I cut daily. We use the rabbits as weed control.

It’s definitely more work this way but they are quite tame as a result. I like to find a balance as well. The whole point of me raising my own meat is to provide a better quality of life for the animals that nourish us.

that being said, my working does get their own hutch with 10x10 paddock. Because nursing is hard work!

(after I took this pic I put the baby back in. Had no idea one would attempt to leave the hutch so early!)
