best roost?

doweling? what size? 2x4?
I've searched the threads and only finding posts about chickens not roosting... Finishing building my coop this weekend and need it up so I don't have to crawl in later.

2x4 would work fine, either wide or narrow side up.
Any thing roundish should be at least 2" in diameter.

All the roosts in my coops are made from tree limbs. I think they're all about 3" wide.
