I have bought eggs online but never had any success. What are the best methods to ship them?? I've heard put them in bird seed and rapped in bubble wrap.

Eggs that I shipped were individually wrapped in bubble wrap, then placed inside an egg carton, then placed inside the shipping box padded with newspaper around the carton on all sides. They always arrived safe. What type of eggs have you purchased? Some shipped eggs just don't do as well as others.

In my experience, the best wrapped eggs have been individually wrapped, each in a a whole sheet of newspaper, placed within the shipping box. Most of these shippers will put down a layer of crumpled paper between the wall of the box and the individual eggs.

I wrap mine in a whole sheet of newspaper and there are occasionally a broken egg or two, by far the majority of shipments arrive with all eggs intact, and a decent hatch rate. If my silkies were laying right now I would ship you some to try. How well do you do with incubating eggs that were obtained locally, no shipping involved, and fairly quickly put into the incubator after they were laid?

I put some of my neighbors eggs with my shipped eggs and they ALL hatched!! No shopped eggs ever work for me

Sorry you are having bad luck, wish I could help but my silkies two are broody and I only have 2 laying. My customers have had good hatches, but my eggs are stored at 45F covered with linen to prevent evaporation until ship date. There are many methods of shipping but to be successful the eggs must be padded and secure to not bounce around in the box. The box also needs to be big enough to provide adequate padding and support all the way around the eggs. This also helps with any sudden external temperature dips or rises.

I wrap my eggs with either 3 inch wide by 12 inch small bubble wrap for bantams or 4 inch by 12 inch for standard. They are each then wrapped twice with wrapping paper and then each wrapped in foil. They are then put into paper tubes of 3 or 4. These tubes are then placed on top of a layer of crumpled paper, surrounded by crumpled paper, and then a layer of crumpled paper on top. The paper must be tight enough to prevent the eggs from shifting but absorb impact. Others use foam, some use bubble wrap for the added padding instead of paper. Remember when purchasing eggs that cheap shipping charges usually mean shortcuts on shipping materials.

If you want to pay shipping, I will ship you some eggs. They will hatch. They won't be silkies but at least you can see they will hatch. Maybe not all of them, but something will hatch.

I've had lots of shipped eggs with different methods and I've never had one arrive broken or cracked.

Bargain (Nancy) does a great job.

Dispsy Doodle Doo (Lisa) does a fantastic job, in fact on one of her shipments every egg she sent was still alive at day 18 and only 2 didn't hatch!

pasofinofarm (Melissa) does a great job.

Pips & Peeps (Jean) really does a good job too with great fertility.

I'll be getting shipments from two different breeders next week so it should be fun to see how the eggs fare from WI and MD.

I have to amend my statement on cheap shipping. A seller I bought eggs from on ebay charged me $14 shipping which I considered reasonable. Well he dropped 8 eggs into the bottom of a small shipping box, and through some folded, yes folded paper, on top, he didn't even take time to crumple the paper. Well the eggs arrived with one broken and the rest with egg on them, and all air sacs damaged. Thank the maker for ebays new policy as he will have to refund me. His shipping cost was $6.05 and he pocketed the $7.95 over. So for him $7.95 is the price of a negative, and slammed on DSRs. I hope he learns, but I doubt it.

From now on I won't assume, I will always ask and demand proper packaging. I accept responsibility for not doing so in the first place, but it still does not excuse poor packaging practice. Who wants to pay $30 for eggs and throw them away. OP ask before you buy, learn proper shipping from others on this site and demand that your eggs be shipped in a proper fashion. You will get results with proper shipping.
