My granddad always ordered his chicks in the Spring. Just wondering if any of you have a preference as to when you order. I would love to order something and get a little size on it before the winter. We live in south Alabama and usually don't get our first front until late October.

Any favorites as far as hatcheries? What about hatchery vs. incubator?

Thanks! Love this site and the forum!!!!!!

Ant time you can get some chicks is good. Spring is probably best because of more selection. Fall is good. Kinda hot right now. Murrey McMurry, Cackle, is good and has some standards still available Ideal is highly thought of.I think they all stand behind their orders. Thers more qualified members than me just wanted to help. Hatching eggs in incubators is fun but I love mother hens. Beginners the best thing is to buy chicks

Thanks! I've bought the chickens I have from locals. Would like to purchase a few rare breed chicks like Maran or Welsummer. No one around here has these for sale. I tried hatching eggs off eBay last year. Hatched 3 chicks out of 13. So, that's not an option. Thanks again for your input.
