Best turkey hatchery?

I was planning on getting some turkeys and was wondering what the best hatchery is. I want to get some heritage turkeys a wide selection with decent prices.

Porters is probably the best.

If you don'y want to go thru a hatchery keep your eyes on craigslist on the spring. Around my area it fills up with poults for sale. Sometimes adults in trio's. If you wanted to hatch some yourself.

Most hatcherys have minimums from 15 to 25 poults. The craigslist option keeps from having to buy a minimum.

I recommend Cackle Hatchery, they have a super website, you can add what you want to the cart and see to the penny how much it's gonna cost before you even check out. They have good prices and a decent selection.

David Porter is quite the authority on the genetics behind the heritage varieties. I can spend hours on his color calculator. He also has a Facebook group. They are pretty serious about genetics.

The problem with Porter's is that he does not always sell by variety. some years all he sells are mixed batches.

I have bought from Porter's, McMurrays, eFowl and Strombergs. eFowl now directs turkey purchasers to Cackle. I have also ordered poults through a local feed store which normally eliminates the need to buy in large groups since they just add your order in with the ones they have coming. Ordering through a local feed store does need to be done early such as right now.

ordering form feed stores is also much cheaper! this year i wanted to try a diffrent breed sice we intend to breed but wow the prices! our feed store uses a wisconsin based hatchery and alothough there are only two choices, they are only 4.35 a bird! i think we will stick with the BBB im cheap

Bbb are hard to breed. They are a butcher turkey. Bred for fast growth and large breast.

Keep an eye on craigslist at least around my area there are trios of heritage turkeys that can be picked up very reasonable. In the spring. That are still laying.

At times on there as well poults can be picked up reasonable.
