the frame seems to be coming along well, now getting worried about the mesh... what type should i use?!? it just will have to keep the chickens in (i dont have to worry about racoons or fox, it's kinda lonley living in middle of teh city

) but heard that chicken wire wont hold anything... then what type of wire shoudl i use??? thanks guys!!

You can order hardware cloth which is a thicker, studier gauged wire. I found a good deal on Amazon but you can compare prices. The smaller the holes the better. Happy chicken owning!

We used 2"x4" welded wire. Works great! Also use deer netting over the top to keep the birds in (and other animals out for us).

thank you for the info!!! how about fine mesh?? the once we use for the screen doors and windows? do they hold?

There are predators everywhere, and if you have chickens you risk bringing them in! Rats at least. We used 1/4" hardware cloth. Works great. Have fun finishing your coop!

okay, will try shopping around different hardware stores for hardware clothe or welded wires

Ditto...hardware cloth for the openings on the coop that may stay open overnight with hardware cloth on the bottom part of the walls of the run and welded wire ( a little less expensive) for the top part of the walls. You may think you dont have raccoons, coyotes, possums etc in the city...but you probably do. I live in the city and have seen all three on my property more than once (as well as skunks, deer{not dangerous but cool} and hawks) not to mention wandering dogs that can go through regular chicken wire like it's water if they want to....and many REALLY want to. Everything likes to eat CHICKEN. Hardware cloth and welded wire cost a little more but it's worth it for peace of mind if nothing else...lasts longer too. Good Luck with your coop build.

I'm guessing from an earlier comment that you do not live in the US...where are you from?

Even if you do not have raccoons or coyotes (they are definitely not cool critters
wink.png
)...dogs can be a big problem with chcikens and chicken wire will be not be much of barrier to a determined canine. I'm glad you are going for the stronger stuff. Post some pictures of your set up when you are done.
