I have a hen raising 3 chicks I would like to move them back into the main coop since it is more secure and warmer. What would the best way be to do that? My gut says just move them at night and they wake up in their new home but I would love some more experienced input. The chicks are 2.5 weeks old at this point. I have let them out to range with the rest of the flock and they do fine.

Think about the size of the coop.
Also think about how far away the other chickens stay when they are free ranging. (Because momma hen chases them away if they get closer.)

Many mother hens guard a large space around the chicks, and many coops just are not big enough for that to happen.

If there is enough space in the coop, then I would put them in at whatever time is convenient for you, and watch for a bit in case of trouble.

Thanks for the suggestions and great point about the interior space. I have a pretty large coop 16'x10' but I think I will wait a bit longer. I also have 6 ~6 week old chicks in the coop right now and while the other chickens know to give her a wide berth I think those chicks might have a harder time. I would rather be safe than sorry.
