best year for a f series ford truck?

If Dodge and Chevy would get together and use the Cummins Diesel and the Allison Tranny it would be an awesome truck.
Dodge diesels tend to be loud, they also have tranny issues. CHevys have some engine issues.
I may be a "girl" but I definitely am more mechanical than hubby and I do small repairs to all of our vehicles.
I still say the engine is more important than what "make" it is. I would not get a ford with the 6.9 diesel, they have had several issues.
Any make vehicle can have "lemons" so just going with Ford, CHevy, Dodge or Toyota is not a way to pick them. CarFax is the best way to get a history on any vehicle.
As far as my experience with Ford, my air is frigid, heat is toasty and I have had only minor issues. I have about 387,000 on my 91 and it was used as a Car Hauler before I got it, I drove it 45 miles each way for over a year to work and any issues (other than a new tranny after a year of owning) have been minor. Maintenance is the most important thing in any vehicle.

To bad I cant take you with me to go look lol. I know this is off topic on my own post but did you hear that chrysler may merge with GM? So gas is the way to go? I want to get manual and learn how to use it.

I heard that on the news, I prefer diesel myself, longevity is the main reason. My 150 was a gas and I honeslty had very few issues with it. When the &%@# in the Toyota Tundra totaled it for me, it had 190,00 and ran like a new one.

I would just take my time and do my homework, Carfax is the way to go. As far as manual, I prefer automatic when pulling, just easier in my book, but I am vertically challenged (5' 1") and that seems to make a difference when using a clutch.... LOL

The maintenance on a diesel is a bit more (glow plugs, etc) but when maintained you can get 600,000 or more on an engine, it is worth it.

I also have a great diesel mechanic for the stuff I can't or don't want to do.

Oilburners is a great website too, the guys in the IDI forum (only one I go in) are a wealth of knowledge in figuring out things.

Cant say much about a ford as I have never owned one. Have owned a new Dodge and Chevy and bought a new Nissan Titan in 06. The Titan has beaten them both hands down (MHO) - and too, remember that the Tundra and Titan are American built where most, if not all Dodge and Chevs are built in Mexico!
