beware!!! didnt think about the bowl of water...

You should get an incubator with an area for water underneath, and a ’wall’ of sorts to stop the chicks from falling in.

(not my own photo it’s just an example)

If you need to add a water source like that for humidity make sure it’s more like a dish and it has rocks or marbles in it to prevent the chicks from drowning.

(not my own photo) This method is also used to help stop bees from drowning. Though it doesn’t make the risk go away it just lessens it.

Im sorry about your chick. I hope it goes better with the other :)

i read you should keep a bowl of water in the incubator for humidity during hatch i had one chick pip early and he hatched and crawled into the little bowl! so sad. just wanted to post this to warn others.
Sorry to hear that:(
Thank you for the information.

The marbles will also act as a heat sink so you lose less heat when you need to open up to refill water, etc.!

I know quite a few people that will put wet sponges in their incubator for humidity and say it’s pretty effective. Sorry to hear about the chick, though.

sorry to hear this, we learn from our mistakes.
I either use a tall cup they cannot climb into or even better is a tall cup with some insect netting over it secured by an elastic band. That way it can be filled, evaporate but nothing will fall in.
It's amazing how many things can go wrong keeping chickens, as much as we research and try to cover all angles it's a new learning curve all the time.
