Can you wrap it with gauze or something to protect it so it doesn't get pecked by curious chickies? Other than that I got nothin. Sorry...hope she heals.

clean and dry and apply regular neosporin and blucoat....... once a day and separate her from the flock so she can rest and be safe from them pecking at it..... I just read another injury post where others suggested adding minerals and vitamins to her water. Good luck

Inject with 1/2cc of BP-48(Pen-g Benzathine/Pen-g procaine), and 1/2 cc of Tylan50(erythromucin/gallimycin). Inject under the skin. Granted the anti-biotics cost more than 2 chickens to buy but will last awhile. Green is bad! Maybe too late! Hope u have these meds in canada!

Do your best to scrub it clean with diluted betadine (providone iodine solution.) Agree with giving an antibiotic if you can get it; penicillin is often recommended for wounds, unless you can get one from a vet. I would not use Blue Kote; I would use triple antibiotic ointment or Bacitracin ointment.

Separation indoors to prevent maggots and good nutritional support, as suggested.

Good luck.

Can you get anykind of antibiotic you can put in her water, like Sulmet or Tylan? Amoxicillin in cheap here and comes in Cherry flavor, too.

Witht he infection spreading like that topical medicine will not be enough. If you can't affoed injectable try the cheaper oral.

Good luck!

ok i think this is doing somthing , i hope im on the right track but the green is gone its just a bit yellow and the cut is scabbing and turning a bit black and crusty is this good?

I agree with everyone that that is too much to treat with just topical. I highly recommend trying to get an antibiotic into her system.

Pennicillin G as previously mentioned is available at most feed stores. In Ontario it cost $6 for a small bottle the last time I bought it, both from the feed store and from the large animal farm vet. It is available without prescription, so if your vet office has it in stock, the desk clerk can just sell it to you. Large animal Vets will also have the erythromycin/gallimycin powder, it is more like $17, though you don't have to use needles. 28 gauge needles are at the Shoppers Drug Mart in a ten pack for diabetics for a little over two bucks.

It can get infected under the scab with an anaerobic bacteria like Staph.

Is her health otherwise seeming totally fine, appetite, energy, etc.? How did she get that gash, your rooster?
