Big Drake pecking day olds

My dominant drake pecks the day old ducklings. The mother duck just stands idly by, allowing this . Arghh. Family dysfunction among the waterfowl. Will the drake eventually kill the ducklings if I allow nature to take its brutal course?

Yes he will I just posted in your original post that you did the right thing by keeping mama and ducklings safe. Drakes can and have killed ducklings.

Thank you. Well, they'll be happy in the pen. It's a good size, and has plenty to investigat. Momma duck will just have to put off socializing for now.

It will be fine I had my mama and her 3 in a make shift pen for 3 weeks and she was happy as a lark hanging out with her ducklings.
you can get the idea here visiting hours were non stop but ducklings were safe.
