Hi! I was candling some Day 18 eggs today before I moved them to the hatcher and set one large *NNFGE egg aside as a quitter --- looked like it was the size of a Day 12 or so embryo.
I finished candling the rest and set that one on the candler to look at it one more time.
It wasn't a quitter, it was just a small chick with lots of 'clear space' in a big egg!
Kind of a surprise, a bantam chick kicking around in a LF egg.

Hey Lisa I candled the eggs I bought from you and all were fertile, and possibly one stopped developing, but gonna leave it for the moment, since they are only a week in. So they are doing great so far. Proof that bubble wrap does not "smoother" the eggs.

I have a few of these this time around. None from your eggs, from my own. I almost tossed them thinking they were quitters until I noticed movement in one and sure enough, they are all still moving! They looked more like day 14 eggs than day 18 eggs when I candled! One of the eggs I had marked as questionable on day 13 or 14 because it was just a swimming speck still, but left it because it was still veining and had movement. I have incubated lots of these eggs from these chickens before and never had such a thing, now I have several like this. Weird. Will be interesting to see if they hatch :dunno

Hi Randy! Thanks!

Hi Patti! That's great to hear! You got them off to a good start. Proof or not... didn't you ever hear "Don't confuse me with facts, my mind's already made up!" ...hahaha.

Hi Becki! Are yours crosses? Mine was from the Naked Neck Frizzle Green-egger (but the eggs are really blue) pen and were made using Turken / Silkie / Frizzle Cochin / Ameraucana crosses. All the chicks I've hatched from that pen have been as large or larger than my Am's. Makes me wonder how many eggs I've discarded as quitters that were just 'small chicks in big eggs' or if this one is the first.

I apologize for being lazy, yes, large fowl. Glad you asked. I see abbreviations all the time that I've no idea what they are supposed to stand for.
The Turken and Am' I used to make this *crossed-up mess* were large fowl and the Silkie and Frizz Cochin were bantam.
