Big floppy comb

A few of us rescued some battery laying hens in a commercial hatchery. I now have a big problem. They have huge floppy combs. I notice when they drink, the comb flops down into the water. In the winter they will freeze. What can I do? I can't heat my barn.

Is there any way you could try using a different type of water source?

Nipple drinkers come to mind.

But you could heat a nipple waterer....it will help in several different ways.

Big floppy combs will still be susceptible to frostbite,
unless they learn how to tuck them behind a wing.
