Hi guys. New to the site. New to the forum. New to keeping chickens!

I'm in the process of moving home to a bigger place, with plenty of room for chooks!

Trying to do my research ahead of time to make sure I do things right. I'm sure I'll make a few mistakes, but I figured the more prepared I am before I actually acquire a few hens (I'm thinking maybe 4 or 5, but tempted to be more like 8 or 9!).

I have an area in the new garden in mind, a coop priced and penciled in, some materials to build an extended run and some local stores in mind to get just about everything I think I need. I'm looking at a few silkies, maybe some Plymouth Rocks, isla browns, Austalorps or even Araucana - probably a combination of 2 (or 3) of these types. I need to get my darling wife engaged here, so the silkies are a tribute to her preferences.

Can't wait to get stuck in!

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. It's always good to get some planning under you belt before starting.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive
