Last night my stepson went to the local auction. The night we don't go there are 3 Jakes. Lol just my luck. We recently lost our Tom to a coyote and our hen is lonely so we told him get us one. I really hate going to the auction because I want to rescue all the birds in poor cages and in poor condition. Well 2 of the Jakes were fantastic condition. You could tell the owners took care of them. The last one was "ugly" according to my son. Well long story short we ended up with the "ugly" one. I'm actually really glad. I was already asleep when he brought the little guy over. After a good assessment this morning he wasn't ugly he just needed a good home. So I welcomed him to big Mama's house. Lots of food and water and room to roam. Poor baby's feathers are in bad shape. I'm hoping with some tlc he'll shine. Here's some pictures of my newest rescue Giblet. His head is blurry bc he was ravenous.

My toms are looking ratty this time of year too. I also am seeing the start of molts in my turkeys with their being big feathers in the shed daily. He should look gorgeous after he molts and eats, and feels more confident. Congratulations.

Looks like he's molting. Just wait....you'll be surprised how gorgeous he'll be with new feathers. What variety is your hen?

What breed is he?

The breed is turkey. The variety is most likely bronze, with some muttly genes. It doesn't look like he should be a mottled variety tho. That many white feathers, especially in a bronze bird is indicative of nutrition deficit of some sort.
