Hello everyone!! We are preparing to expand our flock from 30 hens to approx. 60. In doing so we will also need to change the perimeter size of the outside of the coop and we use a huge shed so the coop foundation should be fine for the flock to bunk together.
My question concern is that is going to be a significant more amount of eggs for me to keep up with store and clean. Anyone that has made the expansion was it a major adjustment... any regrets?
Our hens stay enclosed until about 1or2. Then they free range for the rest of the day then our locked up between 5&6.

I have never done this, but agree this is going to be a lot more work, on all aspects, cleaning and bedding, hauling feed and water, let alone gathering eggs.

Another idea: Perhaps it would be better to have two or three set ups. Then if a predator or a sickness broke out, one would not be in danger of losing all. 60 head is quite an investment.

Good point. Definitely something to consider. We are going to tag them to tell the difference in the new or older hens. Things are going so smooth right now it’s kinda scary making such a big change. Thank you for your response Mrs. K. My chicken guru recently moved. She had chickens for decades and was my go to gal for any advice I needed on this journey...her name is Mrs. K.
