I was looking at the bali bungalow at http://www.birds4less.com Its not fancy, but it will work and this is kind of a bird room anyway, anymore. I have 2 breeders in a tub on the floor and an incubator on the lamp stand at the end of the couch. I have a big mural painted on the wall with a tree, birds are going on the branches soon. I have a bamboo Parrot screen for curtains. Ya, this room is just going straight to the birds.

With the bungalow, I could put 6 in there if need be, it has a removable divider. OR 4 and a couple buttons down below, on a more permanent basis. I could try it any way. If I can't handle it, I could just send the birds to someone.

Well, I'd be really thinking of ease of cleaning. My personal choice would be to get a collapsible dog cage in an appropriate side -- one that has a removable tray. Then, you can get it out of your way when not in use. This would depend, of course, on how often you expect to have a hospital bird.

I have a couple of these out in my garage, slid up underneath my big cage. One is missing the tray but that's what happens when you pay $2 at a yard sale. I'll RIG a tray for that price.

I search garage sales and used ads for older style bird cages. I usually paint them with a nice colour ( which can be harder to find) of garage floor paint so that they are so washable it isn't funny. You can find some really pretty antique bird cages, that once painted can be used, especially if it is for hospital stays so not an overly long period of time (hopefully). Also, I sometimes put decorative flowers inside when they are not being used. I honestly don't have that many anymore, as people seem to love them and I have sold most of what I can find. I sold 3 this summer, simple garage sale finds and a little paint. I am looking for a few smaller anitique ones right now for button quail.

I like the garage sale or thrift store prices, but I have only been finding very small ones, and they don't have the pull outs. I didn't think of hamster cages though and will have to broaden my search around here. One track mind and all that.

I have one that is 12" square Bamboo cage with a metal top and bottom, just a box really. That's what I have been using. I like it but like Rozzie says, no tray and I have to change it out a few times a day, only holds 1 young breeder and that's tight. But its just for a few days of recovering, so it works. I need something bigger but not to big.

I hatch often, so I could need several for adolecsents that have the potential for being good breeders, like now. If it doesn't have breeding potential it doesn't make it to an emergency ward. Actually, I probably only need 1 or 2 more a little larger. But all I am finding right now is smaller. That's why DH said to just get what I wanted and have it on hand. Maybe an assortment of smaller cages and DH can put some floating shelves on the wall for them. To bad the Murals painted in the walk way. I could of hung them (sort of) from that tree.

I really like that Bali cage set up though, but I don't think I could let it sit empty. It has so many ways to use it. Yup, that's the problem. I am afraid I would fill it and get myself into trouble, and would still need an emergency ward. So you know, I have wanted a turquoise parakeet since I was a young girl and never had house birds before.

I am not supposed to have birds in the house, health wise. I have to keep reminding myself. I know I'd fill those cages. But its not off my list yet, I just have to figure out if I can control myself.

Um, is garage floor paint safe for birds? I know they use a special paint on the cages so they don't get sick from pecking the stuff off.

I looked on craigslist - only thing out there is 2 for $75 each and for $100 I can buy a new and prettier one and not have to worry that some bird died in there with a dreaded disease. I envy your $3 finds, best I got was $15 for a dog carrier that my neighbor spoted and grabed for me. But $200 thats a 100ft roll of 1/2" hardware cloth for breeder cages.

I will have to look up the brand of paint we use. It doesn't chip, goes on solid so you would likely break the wood ( I use it for old bamboo cages) before you chipped the paint, so I don't think a bird could peck it off. I consulted a vet, who is also a good friend, and she gave me this idea, as she keeps birds at home and uses this paint.
