hey guys how serious is this bird flu I keep reading about it in the news. and how will it effect hatcheries ? I want to get another pair of geese ether Shetlands or poms. it is kind of scary.

Hi there - it's a very serious threat. If any wild/domestic/commercial fowl come down with AI the death rate is extremely high - not to mention you have to notify the USDA people and they will come and cull all your birds. Also any flocks within a 5km (I think) radius. Any flocks between the 5-10km radius is under watch, so it is an extremely serious threat. I'm not completely sure of the distances, but I'm sure someone here will correct me. There are several good articles on biosecurity for your flock, it's wise to take precautions and be pro-active for your flock,
