There is a lot if information on this site and I realize I have not seen a lot of it. But I was wondering if there is any place that has a collection of Feed Recipies. I have not seen any yet although I have seen lots of them in regard to other critters.
A couple of years ago I found a Starling that had fallen out of it's nest in oneof my warehouses. I brought it and a sibling home and searched the net and found a home brew recipe to feed it. I managed to keep both alive. One left almost as soon as it could fly. The other lived in my living room for over 2 years until it eventually got smitten by all the females in my back yard. Last summer He to chose to return to the wild. But that original recipe kept him Healthy and happy all that time.
it was basically a mix of dog food, baby food, hard boiled egg a couple of tums tablets for Calcium and a few other things.
Although recipies of this nature or helpful. I have also had experience, mainly fish breeding, where the focus seems to be on the nutritional needs of the fish and a list of things that will work to fill that need. Now nothing about this list is accurate but just an example.
50% protein which can be gotten from. Bone Meal, Fish Meal, Cod liver oit or whatever.
Calcium from Blah Blah Blah etc.
vitamin this from X,Y, or Z
I hope you get the idea. basically a break down of the nutritional needs of birds and what will provide those. people can then locate what is available and economical when they are in a pinch. This question was actually sparked by the "What if you could not buy feed" Thread. I think it woudl be far nore likely to have the feed store run out of feed for a week than for several months. but in my opinion certainly when it comes to breeeding stock. any interruption to there nutrition is devistating.
