I walked out to feed the chickens this morning and found my Silkie dead, in her nest. I could tell it was a sudden death because she was still in the position to lay an egg; that's exactly what I thought she was doing when I was coming to the coop, until I noticed she wasn't breathing.
She was fine yesterday. Eating, clucking and scratching around. No strange lethargy or poo. The poo I found under her dead body was even normal. What could have happened?!
If it could possibly have anything to do with it, my zebra finches both died the same way yesterday. They were hopping around and the boy was singing his little heart out just the day before. Then they were dead the next day. Both the chicken and the finches eat well and have access to clean water.
I'm keeping a close eye on the rest of the birds and I haven't seen anything abnormal.
