So my three pullets will not perch at night unless I turn on the light for them for a few minutes. The. They perch and I am able to turn the light off. Is this normal?

It sounds like they are not able to see well enough to find the perch? Have you got adequate natural light in your coop for them?

Ditto Dat^^
Natural light in the coop is important.

I'm going through this with my new batch. It's lighter outside the coop at dusk than it is inside.

I got a small timer with a bulb plugged into it and it goes on about 6:30 pm and off about 8:30 pm. Works like a charm. I'll adjust the times as the days get shorter. With an LED bulb the cost is practically $0.00...
